An event to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the neighborhood being on the national historic registry, as well as to showcase the architectural diversity and our lovely gardens.

To support the tour, volunteer by shepherding guests through the gardens and making certain that visitors see a visual presence to guide them through our neighborhood.

(If you would like to identify your property as Not participating in the tour, then consider displaying a notice that we are recommending for your residence. We believe consistent messaging would serve you most effectively. We are happy to order signs for those who wish to have them. The cost is very reasonable at $10 per sign, simply reach out to Sonya Harshbarger to pay for and request your sign.)

50th Anniversary of the Rockhill Neighborhood.

Next year the Rockhill Homes and Gardens Club is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Rockhill Neighborhood’s historic designation, the first neighborhood in Kansas City to be so honored. There are two things associated with this celebration that may interest you.

Historic Plaques

The club has designed and commissioned historic plaques that may be placed on every home within our historic district. They are cast aluminum, bronze/black in color, and measure 8.25 inches wide and 7 inches high.

As the attached photo shows, the plaques read: “This Property In The Rockhill Historic District Is Listed on the Kansas City Register Of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department Of The Interior “

The cost of each plaque will be approximately $250.

Home and Garden Tour

A Gardens & Architecture Tour of Historic Rockhill will take place May 17, 2025 to celebrate our 50 years as a National Historic District. The tour is intended to feature select gardens and the unique and diverse architecture of our district homes. Please let Karen Moninger (kmoninger@gmail.com) know by August 1 if you would like your home featured on the tour. She will request information about your home to be included in the tour brochure. All homes featured will be viewed only from the exterior.

50th Anniversary of the Historic Designation for the Rockhill Neighborhood.

Work on the Traffic Calming Island #1: Brush Creek Blvd.

After a multitude of conversations with city liaisons, board members, and neighbors, we heard an abundance of feedback requesting a low-maintenance design that is simple, understated, and elegant. We expect the final design to have an inner ring of stone creating a 12 inch elevation from the current base of the island. Our hope (and the city agrees) is that the additional height and weight will help protect the island, while also providing a layer of protection for any landscaping elements that will be added in the future. On top of the elevated portion of the island will sit a single stone pillar reminiscent of the existing pillars that you see throughout Rockhill, and of course, the color and dry-stack stone design will be chosen to honor the existing history of our neighborhood. The current rough draft shows a 34x34 stone pillar that is 5 feet in height from the inner ring, or 6 feet in height from the current base.
