"A car plein air sketch on a chilly, windy afternoon (we’re under a red flag warning) of a beautiful house in the Historic Rockhill Neighborhood in Kansas City — adjacent to Kauffman Gardens and Volker Park, and within walking distance to the Nelson and Kemper museums. I love the eight identical, two-story stone houses on Pierce Street, built in 1907 by Kansas City Star publisher William Rockhill Nelson. The houses create a specific, idyllic residential setting.
I am so fond of these wee stone beauties and have sketched them many times. This one is at 536 Pierce Street, such a pretty setting. There are lots of tees along the narrow esplanade in front of the houses on this street, and today the Eastern redbuds are sprouting tiny, brand new, spring blooms — wee clusters of gorgeous, purple flowers."
Judith Coe.
Thanks, Judith.

Bill Sessions provides us with a history of another interesting Rockhill neighborhood home.
A timely remembrance of our house.
Thanks to who turned out to help the Heartland Tree Alliance in planting trees throughout the neighborhood. Some 40+ trees were planted on May 7th to improve air and water quality, build resilience to climate change, and beautify our neighborhood.
Of special note: Susan Carlson's efforts to partner with the Heartland Tree Alliance in a proposal to PIAC requesting an additional 35 trees to be planted in 2024.
A big thank you to Ed Straley for once again arranging and organizing a very
successful picnic on October 1 st.
Thanks to Gerry Carlson for making the dumpster available and then attending it while neighbors dropped off items on October 7th.
The historic plaques ordered by residents have arrived and can be picked up after January 8th at the home of Brian Ball. Along with your plaque you will receive written documents that include the Rockhill National and Local nomination form and notes about coordinating with Brian to have installation by Larry Schubach (if you wish) and estimated cost of installation.

If you know of others in the neighborhood who deservedly should be recognized here, please send the web team a note via the link below and we will be sure to post your suggestion.
